One trend that we’ve noticed on the runway and in the magazines is embracing and playing around with natural texture. The Stella McCartney fashion show “celebrated the individual” by leaving mass amounts of styling products on the shelves and opting for last-minute haircuts only when needed. Models are embracing their natural hair texture!
What we love about this look is that it’s ridiculously low maintenance & easy to ‘achieve’. Plus, it’s a style that’s pretty much become part of my daily routine for the past few years. But, make no mistake – I was seriously guilty of over-straightening my hair (every day) for a good chunk of time there. In fact, I was so uncomfortable with my naturally beachy waves, that I ended up damaging my hair pretty badly from overusing heat styling tools.
I knew my hair needed some serious TLC when it started air drying perfectly straight after a shower. I’ve embraced my natural texture for years and it’s the best thing I could have done!
Anyone can rock this look, just get comfortable in your own skin!
GET A GRIP
Gone are the wispy & loose bohemian braids we’ve come to love over the last few years – Spring/Summer of 2016 is all about sleek and tight braids. Of course you can still rock loose braids if that’s your thing. But we still recommend trying out this modern chic twist to your classic braid and keep your knots edgy.
These braids are all about keeping your hold on the hair extra tight while you’re braiding. It’s pretty easy, really, but you can get as creative as you want with it.
Louis Vuitton chose to work with smaller peek-a-boo braids to add subtle texture in their S/S 2016 show, while Valentino opted for cornrow-esque braids for an edgier look.
It’s 2016, but 90’s trends have never been cooler. Everything from chokers, baggy clothing, and space buns have been slowly coming back into the fashion scene for the last year. Our favorite of these trends is the super model hair of the 90’s- think Cindy Crawford.
The style we’re going for today is this messy side part that gives a gorgeous beach goddess effect. If you’re like me, you probably flip your hair 100 times throughout the day without even realizing it. This style truly is one of the most flattering and effortless looks that you can achieve.
The deep-part hair flip gives a sexy, but laid back vibe for the modern-retro girl.
RIDE THE WAVE
If you’re blessed with fresh out of the shower beach waves, then this step is pretty effortless for you. For anyone with straight or super curly hair, this will require a little more work, but it’s so worth it!
ONE: Avoid stripping your hair of it’s natural oils by keeping your washes to a minimum! Try extending your washes to every 2-3 days and use dry shampoo to prevent excess build up of oils – plus, it’ll give you a fresh boost of volume for the day. When you do wash, opt for a formula that will boost your natural volume and give you some extra body. We suggest the Brazilian Blowout Volume Shampoo & Conditioner for a formulation that adds dimension to your locks without weighing them down.
Beach Sea Salt or Texturizing sprays are perfect for getting that undone look. Simply apply to your hair when wet and scrunch in with your fingers from the ends of your hair all the way up towards your roots. We adore the Davines Sea Salt Spray or the Living Proof Instant Texture Mist – they both add a voluminous beachy look, without making your hair crunchy.
For those of you who have straight hair, spray your wave-enhancing product and flip your head up-side down. Begin blow drying your hair at the roots using a low speed and medium heat. Be sure not to brush your hair through, this could unintentionally straighten your locks! Curly haired babes can restructure their hair into beachy waves with a 1 inch curling clipless curling iron or rock their curls.
Choosing your part all depends on your preference! A secret styling tip is to start by flipping your hair on the opposite side that it naturally falls to give it some natural lift at your roots. Then throughout the day feel free to flip it to the other side to keep the hairs volume lasting throughout the day. Flipping it to the other side mid-day keeps the style looking it’s best and gives the volume a fresh feel.
Bonus Tip: If you have a wider face with strong cheekbones, use the end of your eye to determine the depth of the part. For a smaller face, use the middle of the eye as your guide.
MAKE IT LAST
As we briefly mentioned before, utilizing the effects of dry shampoo will keep your hair looking fresh for a few days. Dry shampoo gives hair some extra grip and added texture, while separating the strands from one another.
When spraying into the hair shaft, make sure to tousle your hair with your fingers and gently scrunch the hair to work the product in and blend any powdery residue that may be left over.
