Want to achieve Gigi Hadid’s look at home? Just follow these four steps and you’ll be well on your way to having super model hair.

STEP 1.

Start with hair that is still a little wet (about 80% dry), apply the Aveda Phomollient Styling Foam, focusing on the roots for volume, and rough blow dry.

[/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”]

STEP 2.

Take your 1 in. and 3/4 in. curling irons and alternate irons and the size of the sections you’re curling (Pro Tip: make sure that the curls that frame your face are all curled away from your face!)  “You end up with more of an authentic beach wave than one created by a [/fusion_builder_column][fusion_builder_column type=”1_1″ background_position=”left top” background_color=”” border_size=”” border_color=”” border_style=”solid” spacing=”yes” background_image=”” background_repeat=”no-repeat” padding=”” margin_top=”0px” margin_bottom=”0px” class=”” id=”” animation_type=”” animation_speed=”0.3″ animation_direction=”left” hide_on_mobile=”no” center_content=”no” min_height=”none”][single] curling iron.” says Gigi’s hair stylist, Jennifer Yepez, on the set of Calvin Harris’s music video, “How Deep is Your Love”

STEP 3.

Next, gently comb through the waves with your wide-tooth comb, and spray the roots with a little bit of the Davines Hair Refresher for some added volume.

STEP 4.

Finish the look off by lightly spraying the hair with Living Proof’s Texturizing Spray to enhance the beachy texture we’re looking for. “Throughout the day I kept adding more texture using a mix of the salt spray and texturizing spray in the roots,” Yepez says.

MTMH Tip: Protect Your Color Treated Hair

Coloring your hair can change up your entire look and ignite your confidence. Whether you’re just covering a few grays or going all out with a vibrant color, you’ll feel like a brand new person as soon as you step out of the salon.

It’s important to take extra care of color treated hair and there are a few precautions we suggest you take in order to keep your color lasting and beautiful until your next appointment.

 USE SULFATE-FREE SHAMPOO!

Sulfates are infamous for stripping color and moisture from the hair follicle, which leaves your once vibrant-looking color with a dull and dry appearance.  Investing in a sulfate-free shampoo, like Aveda’s Color Conserve line, will help to extend your color life and keep your locks looking fresh.

Bonus Tip: Do not wash your hair more often than every other day, in fact try extending your washes to 2-3 times per week and wash in cool water. Hot water tends to strip the color faster, while cool water actually seals your color in.

AVOID ALCOHOL-BASED STYLING PRODUCTS!

Although it may be difficult, opting for alcohol-free styling products will help your color last longer. Like sulfates, alcohol based products increase the fading process time, especially while the sunlight is more direct in the summertime. Luckily, there are lots of products out there that are alcohol-free for this exact reason. Products that contain alcohol can make your hair feel brittle, so taking a break from them will soften your locks.

BEAT THE HEAT!

We always suggest only using hot styling tools like curling wands and straightening irons with a heat protectant. However, colored hair is more susceptible to damage so minimizing your use of blow dryers and curling/straightening irons is key to keeping your color-treated hair healthy. Embrace your natural hair texture! Simply apply some styling products that will add a little structure and emphasize your natural texture and allow your hair to air dry.

Bonus Tip: If you must blow dry your colored hair, give yourself some extra time to get ready and keep it to the lowest heat setting. Better yet, if your blow dryer has a cool blast setting, use that instead. Of course, this means a little more time in your daily routine, but more importantly it means keeping your hair health intact and your color looking great until your next appointment.

PROTECT THOSE LOCKS!

With summer right around the corner, it’s good to know how the warm months can impact your color. If you love to swim make sure to saturate your hair with clean water and apply a protective leave-in conditioner before you get in to help prevent the chlorine from damaging you color. The chemical treated water can build up in your hair and cause color (especially lighter colors) to develope into an unattractive green hue. It’s also a great idea to invest in a hair cleanser that specializes in removing the chlorine fromyour hair when you get out of the pool! Aveda’s Sun Care line includes the Protective Veil, a Hair & Body Cleanser, and an After-Sun Hair Masque.

GLAZE IT UP!

Schedule a glaze appointment between your initial color appointment and your retouch appointment to prevent your hair from losing its luster. A glaze is a clear deposit that brings back the shine into your hair without actually adding any color. This is the ultimate way to keep your hair looking its best.

MTMH: How To Choose The Perfect Cut For Your Face Shape

At Music To My Hair we pride ourselves on offering a detailed consultation before each appointment. We take the time discuss your lifestyle & daily demands, while also considering the shape of your face and unique bone structure.

You can also do this at home by taking a ruler and measuring the widths of your brow, cheekbones and jawline, and the length of your face from forehead to chin.

Round = your face is nearly as wide as it is long, with your forehead and jaw curving at the corners. ie: Charlize Theron

Heart-Shaped = you have a wide brow and narrow jaw. ie: Taylor Swift

Oval = width of brow, cheekbone, and jaw are almost equal. ie: Ashley Greene

Square = Wide brow & narrow jaw, but the length and width of your face is equal. ie: Olivia Wilde

ROUND FACE

THE CUT
A shorter chop with spiky layers sliced around the crown.

“If you’re going short, go short all the way” –Celebrity Hairstylist Garren

A petite pixie cut breaks up the roundness of your face, while choppy pieces add height up top which lengthens your face and emphasizes your eyes. The style is also extremely easy to style whether you have straight, wavy, or fine hair.

Avoid a jaw-length bob for a round face and stay away from this style if you have very curly hair.

HEART FACE

THE CUT
Long layers with curly sections and full bangs.

WHY IT WORKS

“Never pair a defined jaw with a heavy, motionless curtain of hair. The result will be too severe.” – Garren

Thick fringe like Taylor Swift’s offsets prominent jaws. Regardless of texture, the look is easy to pull off.

If your hair is fine, keep your layers long and concentrated closer to the ends to create a full, but light effect.

LONG/OVAL FACE

THE CUT
A sleek blowout that hits around the shoulders.

WHY IT WORKS

Although the layers look uniform, the subtle variations in length keep your strands from lying flat against your head.

If your hair is fine, keep uneven pieces around your face so that the hair looks as full as possible.

THE CUT

Wispy shoulder-length layers starting a few inches above the ends with sweeping bangs.

WHY IT WORKS

“The airy ends prevent the eye from noticing any sharp corners” Garren

Feathery layers conceal a strong chin and add volume to any hair type.

Part your hair to the side for an asymmetrical effect.

Of course you don’t have to have a pixie cut if you have a rounder face or long hair if you have an oval face – that’s what’s great about having the talented and experienced stylists at Music To My Hair available to help you decide what cut would flatter your face the best.

Call 518-313-7723 to book a complimentary consultation and we’ll help you decide what your next stop on your hair journey should be.
